At a glance

This summary is a guide. The complete Terms control if the summary differs from them.

  • ChessCue is for adults learning chess for personal use. Games inside ChessCue are against Stockfish.
  • Coaching can make mistakes. Do not use it to cheat in games against other people.
  • The current service is free. You keep your content and can stop using ChessCue at any time.

Accounts and eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and use ChessCue only for your own personal, noncommercial learning. Accounts are for individuals, not for a company, school, club, client, or another person. By accepting the checkbox at registration or an updated version in the app, you agree to the Terms presented to you.

Provide accurate account information, keep your credentials secure, and do not share, sell, or transfer access. You are responsible for your use of the account. Tell us promptly if you believe someone has accessed it without permission.

Learning and fair play

ChessCue offers games against Stockfish, reviews of completed games, and chess practice. It does not match you with another player. Do not use its analysis, suggested moves, or coaching during an active game against another person, or whenever a platform, tournament, or examination prohibits outside assistance.

You are responsible for following the rules of the platform or event where you play. We may restrict assistance to protect fair play. Other platforms decide how to enforce their own rules.

Acceptable use

Use ChessCue lawfully and respect other people's rights. Do not:

  • Harass, threaten, impersonate, infringe rights, or submit unlawful content, malware, spam, or unnecessary sensitive personal information.
  • Access other accounts, disrupt or probe nonpublic systems, or bypass security, safety controls, quotas, or rate limits.
  • Use bots, scrapers, scripts, or automated interfaces without permission, resell access, or extract nonpublic data, credentials, prompts, or model components.
  • Reverse engineer or copy protected software except where applicable law permits it, or use ChessCue or its output to train, test, or benchmark models, engines, datasets, or competing products without written permission.
  • Use coaching as professional legal, medical, financial, or safety advice.

Your content

You keep the rights you have in submitted games, messages, notes, and voice input. You give ChessCue a worldwide, nonexclusive, royalty free license to host, process, reproduce, transmit, display, and adapt that content only as needed to provide, secure, debug, evaluate, and improve your requested service. Providers acting for us receive only the rights needed for that work.

The license ends when content is deleted, except for limited copies retained for legal, security, backup, or dispute purposes. It does not authorize training general purpose AI models on your content without separate permission. Submit only content you may lawfully share, including imported games and other people's information.

AI and connected services

Optional coaching uses Google Gemini to process chess context, messages, saved notes, and voice input you choose to provide. The Privacy Policy explains data handling. AI and engine explanations can be incomplete, inaccurate, or unsuitable. Check important analysis yourself. We do not guarantee rating gains, tournament results, unique output, or continued availability of a particular model or voice.

You may use coaching output for personal, noncommercial purposes, subject to applicable law and third party rights. You do not contract directly with Google merely by using our coaching. Do not use AI features in ways that violate the provider's safety or acceptable use rules.

Connecting Google sign in, Chess.com, or Lichess authorizes the requested connection or import. These independent services have their own terms and availability; their integrations may change. This does not limit any mandatory rights you have against ChessCue.

Free access

The current service is free, with the feature and usage limits shown in ChessCue. Accepting these Terms creates no subscription and authorizes no automatic charges. Any future paid offer will require a separate purchase with its price, renewal, cancellation, and consumer information presented before you agree.

ChessCue's content

ChessCue and its licensors own the software, branding, design, and service materials, except for user content and independent third party content. You receive a limited, nonexclusive, nontransferable right to use them through ChessCue for personal learning while your account is permitted to access the service. We may use your feedback without payment, but will not identify you publicly without permission.

Service and Terms updates

We may change the service for valid reasons such as legal requirements, security, abuse prevention, provider or technical changes, capacity, or improvements to usability and performance. We explain changes where required and do not impose an extra charge solely because of a change.

Where digital product law applies, a change that materially impairs access or use will be explained reasonably in advance by email or another durable medium, including its timing and your right to end the affected contract without charge or retain an unchanged version where applicable. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

For material Terms updates, we normally give at least 30 days of advance notice by email or another durable medium and ask you to accept the new version before continuing to use account features. Urgent legal or security reasons may require shorter notice, which we explain where permitted. Wording clarifications that do not change rights or obligations do not ordinarily require renewed acceptance. Updates do not apply retroactively to existing disputes. Dated versions remain in the Terms history.

Availability and your data

Maintenance, outages, provider failures, and technical errors can interrupt ChessCue or cause data loss. We do not promise uninterrupted or error free service. ChessCue is not a backup service; keep an independent copy of games, notes, or conversations you need. The Privacy Policy explains retention and deletion.

Nothing in these Terms excludes mandatory rights to a conforming digital service, repair, price reduction, termination, or damages. Liability is governed by the following section.

Liability

ChessCue is liable without limitation for intent or gross negligence, negligent or intentional injury to life, body, or health, liability under the German Product Liability Act, fraudulently concealed defects, and guarantees we expressly give.

For slight negligence in other cases, we are liable only for breach of a material contractual obligation: one essential to performing the contract and on which you may ordinarily rely. Liability is limited to foreseeable loss typical for the contract when accepted. Other liability for slight negligence is excluded, subject to mandatory law.

For data loss, recoverable restoration costs are limited to those that would arise with reasonable backups. This limit does not apply to the unlimited liability cases above. Mandatory digital product rights and liability that cannot legally be restricted remain unaffected.

Suspension and ending use

You can stop using ChessCue or delete your account at any time. We may investigate misuse, restrict or remove content, or suspend access to address serious or repeated breaches, security threats, infringement, or legal requirements. We act proportionately and give notice and an opportunity to respond where reasonable, but may act immediately to prevent harm or comply with law.

For a copyright complaint, identify the work and challenged content, explain your authority and concern, and contact legal@chesscue.com. You can also use that address to request review of an account or content decision. We review complaints and take action required by applicable law.

We may terminate accounts for serious or repeated violations or discontinue the service with reasonable notice where practical and legally required. Export content before an announced termination. Deletion follows the Privacy Policy. Ending use does not remove accrued rights or obligations that must survive, including ownership and liability provisions.

Operator and applicable law

ChessCue is currently identified by its trading name. Before public launch, we will add the legal operator's name, legal form, business address, and applicable registration details here. Legal questions can be sent to legal@chesscue.com.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. Consumers retain mandatory protections of the law of their habitual residence. Courts have jurisdiction under applicable law; no clause requires consumers to use a court unavailable under mandatory consumer rules.

You may contact us to seek an informal resolution, but doing so is voluntary and does not suspend deadlines or restrict court access. If a provision is invalid, statutory rules apply and the remaining Terms continue to apply.
