About ChessCue
What is ChessCue?
ChessCue is an AI chess coach that runs in your browser. You play against a computer opponent while a coach explains positions by chat, or by voice on Club and Grandmaster. On those plans you can also review your games, including games imported from Chess.com and Lichess, and practice the positions you missed.
How does the AI coach work?
The coach combines Stockfish engine analysis of the current position with a language model. The engine finds the facts of the position, and the coach turns them into an explanation you can follow and question.
Can I play against other people on ChessCue?
No. ChessCue is a training tool. You play against the computer at a level you choose, from about 500 to about 2000 Elo, and on Club and Grandmaster you can import games you played against people on Chess.com and Lichess.
Does ChessCue work on my phone?
Yes. ChessCue runs in the browser on desktop, tablet, and mobile, with nothing to install.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. In settings you can delete coach conversations, reset coaching memory, remove cloud and imported games, or delete your whole account.
Coaching
What is Guardian Angel?
Guardian Angel checks your move before it is played. If the move blunders, the game pauses so you can look again. The Free plan shows the warning, and Club and Grandmaster also explain the danger.
What is Devil's Advocate?
Devil's Advocate lets a weak move through, then shows how your opponent can punish it. Seeing the consequence makes the lesson easier to remember. It is part of Club and Grandmaster.
What is Socratic coaching?
With Socratic coaching turned on, the coach answers with guiding questions and hints instead of giving the move away. It reveals more only when you ask.
Can I talk to the coach out loud?
Yes. Club and Grandmaster include live voice coaching during games and reviews, along with text chat. The Free plan includes text coaching in one blitz game per day, with up to 20 questions in that game.
What are coach whispers?
Coach whispers are occasional hints at important moments while you play. They are off by default and can be turned on in settings.
Game review and practice
Can I import my Chess.com and Lichess games?
Yes, on Club and Grandmaster. Link your Chess.com username or authorize Lichess, and ChessCue imports your games, including your full history if you want it.
How does practice work?
On Club and Grandmaster, each analyzed game produces practice positions from the moves you missed. You play the position again and try to find the better move.
What is a coaching focus?
A coaching focus is a recurring pattern in your analyzed games, such as opening mistakes. A focus appears once it is supported by at least three games. Club includes your main focus, and Grandmaster includes all of them with scheduled practice.
Plans and pricing
Is ChessCue free?
Yes. The Free plan includes unlimited play against the computer, with the latest 50 games kept in this browser, Stockfish analysis, Guardian Angel warnings, text coaching in one blitz game per day with up to 20 questions, and an example review with practice.
What does Club add?
Club adds voice coaching, full game reviews and review conversations, Chess.com and Lichess import, Guardian Angel explanations, Devil's Advocate, practice from analyzed games, one recurring coaching focus, opening results, and cloud sync.
What does Grandmaster add?
Grandmaster includes everything in Club, with more voice minutes and chat messages, every recurring coaching focus, opening insights across your games, and scheduled practice that brings positions back over time.
How many game recaps can I generate?
Club includes 10 game recaps per day, and Grandmaster has no daily recap limit. The daily count resets at midnight UTC. Each new recap also uses one chat message and voice minutes for its narration, while replaying a saved recap uses no allowance. Free does not include recaps.
Is there a discount for paying yearly?
Yes. Annual billing for Club and Grandmaster costs less than paying monthly for a full year.
Can I get more coaching without upgrading?
Extra chat messages will be available as add ons for any plan. Extra voice minutes will need Club or Grandmaster, because Free does not include voice coaching.
