Voice chess coach
Talk through your games with a live voice chess coach
ChessCue includes a live voice coach. Ask questions out loud while you play or review a game, and the coach answers in natural speech. Its explanations are grounded in the current position and Stockfish analysis.
Why talk instead of type
Typing a question pulls your attention off the board. Speaking keeps your eyes on the position, which is where calculation happens.
Saying your plan out loud also exposes the gaps in it, much like explaining an idea to a friend makes you notice the move you did not check.
What you can ask
Ask the way you would ask a coach sitting next to you. A few examples:
- What is my opponent threatening?
- Which of my pieces is doing the least?
- Is it safe to take on e5?
- What plan fits this pawn structure?
- Why was my last move a mistake?
Voice works after the game too
Step through a finished game and ask about any position out loud, or listen to a narrated recap that walks through the turning points.
Choose how your coach talks
Set the coach's tone and how deep its explanations go in settings. Turn on Socratic coaching if you would rather be asked questions than given answers.
Microphone and privacy
The coach only listens while a voice session is active, and you can end the session at any time. To generate replies, voice coaching sends your audio, the game context, and relevant coach history to Google Gemini. The privacy policy explains how this data is handled.
Frequently asked questions
Is voice coaching free?
Voice coaching is included in Club and Grandmaster, each with a monthly allowance of voice minutes. The Free plan includes text coaching in one blitz game per day, with up to 20 questions in that game.
Can the voice coach see my board?
Yes. The coach receives the current position and engine analysis with your questions, so its answers refer to the game in front of you.
Do I need special hardware?
No. Any modern browser with microphone access works. Your browser asks for permission the first time you start a voice session.
Can I switch between voice and chat?
Yes. Voice and text chat are two ways to talk to the same coach, and you can use whichever suits the moment.
